In 1962, Larry was working at his lifeguard tower in Venice as a Los Angeles County Lifeguard when he saw surfers rolling around the parking lot on homemade steel wheeled skateboards. In his garage in Santa Monica, Larry designed and constructed the first professional skateboard…wider trucks, composite wheels and surf shaped and railed hardwood decks that gave the rider the feeling of surfing. Larry coined the phrase “Surf-Skate” and put it on his boards. In 1963, he formed the worlds first skateboard team and promoted the worlds first skateboard competition.

This beautiful 39" vertical laminate longboard was the last board designed by Larry and Curt Stevenson before Larry's passing. Each one is manufactured in El Segundo, California and features design influences from the legendary Makaha boards of the past in a clean, modern design.
The boards features 63mm USA made MAKAHA wheels and USA made Sure-Grip Invader trucks.

The Originator 2 is the first board we’ve built from the ground up. We took Larry Stevenson’s classic single kick shape, We added USA made trucks, USA wheels, Swiss bearings, MAKAHA USA made decks. Decks are hand cut, sanded and silk-screened.
We wanted to get back to our roots and get our hands dirty…and keep these handmade decks affordable to our family and friends. We also wanted them to look old school…no heat transfers or fake woodgrain tops….just our classic logo silk screened on the wood with some grip on top.
